JLPT N5
Interesting Fact
One of Kyoto's most famous summer traditions features a giant bonfire shaped like the kanji 大. Lit on a mountainside during the Gozan Okuribi festival, the character stands about 80 meters tall—roughly the height of a 25-story building.
Memory Trick
The kanji 大 comes from a picture of a person stretching out both arms and legs. Imagine an ancient hunter trying to describe a giant fish he caught:"It was THIS BIG!"
