Interesting Fact

The word 機会 (きかい) means “opportunity,” but the kanji 機 carries the idea of a situation or moment when something can happen. This is why Japanese also has 機が熟す (きがじゅくす)—literally, “the opportunity has ripened.” It describes waiting until circumstances are right before taking action. It's similar to waiting for fruit to become ripe: act too early and the timing isn't right; wait for the right moment, and the opportunity is ready.
