お(きる) (okiru), お(こる) (okoru), お(こす) (okosu)

JLPT N4

Interesting Fact

Japan has over 100 active volcanoes, more than almost any other country. 🌋 When scientists detect small earthquakes or rising gas levels, they often describe a volcano as "waking up" before an eruption. Even Mount Fuji, although quiet since 1707, is still officially classified as an active volcano.

Memory Trick

起 Symbol made from 走 (run/move) + 己 (self). The original idea is "yourself getting up and moving." That lends itself to both historical and modern stories.
