A particularly Japanese expression is 出迎え (demukae)—going out to meet someone who is arriving. You might use it when meeting someone at an airport or station, for example. Instead of thinking, “I'll wait here until you arrive,” the expression emphasizes going toward the arriving person. That makes 迎 unusually visual: imagine seeing your friend arrive at the station, then walking toward them with a big smile. You're literally 迎える them.
