Interesting Fact
In Japanese Buddhism, 殺生（せっしょう） means killing living beings. The expression is especially associated with the Buddhist principle of avoiding the taking of life. 殺生戒（せっしょうかい） is one of the Buddhist precepts concerning the prohibition of killing. This idea influenced Japanese religious culture for centuries and can still be encountered in Buddhist vocabulary today.
