Few scenes capture 散る（ちる） better than cherry blossoms. When sakura petals fall from the trees and drift across the ground, Japanese describes them as 散る—to scatter or fall away. This became deeply connected with Japanese aesthetics because cherry blossoms are admired partly for their short life and dramatic disappearance.
