Interesting Fact
The verb 参る（まいる） originally carried the idea of going or coming, but Japanese developed it into a humble expression used when speaking respectfully about oneself. You might hear 東京へ参ります in formal speech, meaning “I will go to Tokyo.” It is also strongly associated with visiting sacred places: 神社に参る means to visit a shrine.
