Interesting Fact
In 1274 and again in 1281, Mongol fleets attempted to invade Japan. Both times, powerful typhoons scattered and destroyed much of the invading force. The storms became known as kamikaze (η₯ι’¨), or "divine winds." For many people, it seemed as though the heavens themselves had intervened to protect Japan.
