According to Japanese tradition, anyone who folds one thousand paper cranes (senbazuru) may be granted a wish. The belief became known worldwide through the story of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who folded cranes while recovering from radiation sickness after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Today, paper cranes remain a symbol of hope, peace, and perseverance.
