JLPT N5
Interesting Fact
Japan's 5-yen coin is considered lucky because its pronunciation, go-en (五円), sounds like the word for a good relationship or fortunate connection (ご縁). When visiting a shrine, many people toss a 5-yen coin into the offering box and hope to attract a little extra luck from the gods. It's one of the few coins in the world valued not just for its money, but for the meaning hidden in its name.
Memory Trick
Japanese yen coins are round. That's why Ancient Japanese choose Kanji 円 for Japanese Currency and Circle.
