Interesting Fact
One of Japan’s most famous artists, Katsushika Hokusai, didn't stick to one name. Throughout his long career, he used more than 30 different artist names. Names such as Hokusai, Iitsu, Manji, and Gakyō Rōjin marked different periods of his artistic life. In Japanese, an artist's adopted artistic name is called a 号 (gō) or 雅号 (gagō). Hokusai even passed some of his names on to students.
