Produce, Product, Birth

う(む) (umu), う(まれる) (umareru)

JLPT N4

Interesting Fact

In traditional Japanese belief, the place where you were born could have its own guardian deity called 産土神 (うぶすながみ). ⛩️ The word literally connects 産 with the land of one's birth. Even if you later moved far away, this deity was traditionally associated with the land where you were born. In some regions, people continued to visit their birthplace's shrine as a connection to their origins. So 産 isn't only about "birth"—it can carry the emotional idea of the place and land from which your life began.

Memory Trick

“🏭 A new product is born (生) under the factory roof—that's 産!”
