給
Supply, Give
たまう (tamau)
JLPT N3
Interesting Fact
The idea of 給 isn't limited to salary or wages. Japanese uses it whenever something is supplied or provided. For example, 給水 (きゅうすい) means water supply, while 給油 (きゅうゆ) means supplying fuel. The kanji therefore appears in surprisingly practical situations—from a child's school lunch to keeping vehicles supplied with fuel.
